Residents at MHA Horfield Lodge embark on trip to China from comfort of armchair

A staff member at an Ipswich care home is preparing to embark on a virtual journey to Berlin to raise money for the benefit of residents.

Sergio Ishmael, who works as a maintenance worker at MHA Norwood, will challenge himself to cover the 572-mile distance from the home in Ipswich to Berlin in just under a month.

The challenge will run from 28 September to 23 October, with Sergio using a combination of cycling, running, walking and swimming to clock up the miles.

Sergio is no stranger to fundraising challenges. In 2022, he completed a similar challenge, travelling virtually from Ipswich to Brussels. However, that journey covered around half the distance of his latest challenge.

This time, Sergio has doubled the mileage and set his sights on Berlin, with funds raised going towards the home's amenities fund. The fund is used to help arrange trips, entertainment and activities for residents.

MHA Norwood provides residential and dementia care for up to 45 residents.
